In April of 1973, a joint meeting of the Socio-Economic Committee of the AANS and the Congress of Neurological Surgeons was held in Los Angeles, CA. One of the items that came out of that meeting was a unanimous recommendation that every state with a sufficient number of neurosurgeons organizes a state neurosurgical society. Therefore, a meeting was called for all Texas neurosurgeons to attend a meeting on May 5, 1973, at the Fairmont Hotel in Dallas, TX. The result of that meeting was the creation of the Texas Association of Neurological Surgeons. For the last 30+ years, TANS and its volunteer members have been working tirelessly to advance the practice of neurosurgery throughout the State.

Member education, grassroots lobbying, and patient advocacy are just a few of the cornerstones of the association.
